the Consortium “Veneto Leather District”

Officially recognised by the Veneto Region, the Veneto Leather District is the legal entity that aggregates the Enterprises and Associations of the entire leather chain.

What are the characteristics of the Consortium?
 

The "Distretto Veneto della Pelle" is a consortium that combines all the Veneto leather industry company activities: tanning, chemicals, machinery, recycling and services.
Established in 2009, at the behest of companies and trade associations which came together to create common development strategies for the entire supply chain and territory, the Veneto Leather District is now a legal entity officially recognised by the Veneto Region - D.G.R. no. 1797 of 9/12/2015, pursuant to Regional Law no. 13 of 30/05/2014 "Discipline of industrial districts, regional innovative networks and business aggregations".

  • aggregator – its members include entrepreneurs, technicians and professionals specialised in all areas and sectors of the supply chain (leather suppliers, agents and brokers, tanners, subcontractors, leather technologists, machinery and technology manufacturers, recovery companies, service providers and specialised consultancy).

  • Representative – all major existing professional and trade associations for the leather industry are represented in its Executive Board, including: Confindustria, Confartigianato, Apindustria, Assomac, AICC and UNPAC.

  • Territorial – operating in the territory where the leather supply chain is strongly integrated by interacting with local authorities and institutions to foster sustainable development that encompasses the economy, processes, the environment and people.

  • Relational – believing in the importance of dialogue, exchange of views and networking between the public, private and third sectors committed to the development of relations between people, companies, service providers, schools and academia, local, regional, national and international institutions.

How does the consortium work?

The Consortium promotes and supports innovation processes in the district and the region. It mainly operates in the following areas:

  • Specialist and specialised training
  • ITS Green Leather Manager
  • Networking between students/interns and companies
  • Relations with schools and educational guidance activities
  • Promoting the reputation of the leather sector and the District's companies
  • Relationship with local, regional, national and international bodies and institutions
  • Partnerships and round tables with professional and trade associations in the supply chain
  • Cultural events and networking venues between companies
  • Identifying and securing tenders and grants
  • Support for the development of business networks for funding eligible projects
  • Aggregation and round tables with industry and professional associations
  • Facility and service relations
  • Relations with Universities and Academia
  • Research and environmental and social sustainability projects
  • Creation of a multipurpose meeting venue

Strategic objectives

The Operational Development Plan articulates the Vision of the District in 5 strategic objectives:

Training – planning and coordinating activities for developing skills useful to the supply chain, promoting specialised training, supporting local institutes and developing new higher training projects, such as ITS Green Leather Manager.

Sustainable circular innovation – promoting a culture of full scale sustainability and promoting research and development paths that foster digital innovation and the transition to sustainable, eco-friendly and fully circular production systems.

Supply chain networking – fostering relationships between tanning companies, machinery and technology manufacturers, chemical companies, by-product recovery and recycling companies and purification plants, to promote integration, innovation and inter-company design.

Institutional relations – linking the business world with local, regional and national institutions, fostering dialogue between the public and private sectors and creating initiatives for aggregation, debate and sharing, developing cultural initiatives and shared projects.

Reputation and Promotion – improving the reputation and recognisability of the Veneto Region's supply chain, promoting and enhancing the circularity and sustainability of leather, the leading businesses present, professional skills, entrepreneurial capabilities and leadership in international markets.
